The sediment sampler was developed in collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat to guide surface water through one or two sediment boxes in a dosed manner. The outer casing is designed to provide space for two stacked sediment boxes, as supplied by UGT GmbH.
Over time, a layer of sediment accumulates in the sediment boxes. The suspended matter in the water that is led through the sediment box settles in the box because the flow speed slows down by a factor of 50 compared to the flow speed in the pipes.
The sediment can be analyzed for many components. The sludge is analyzed by external parties.
The physical control is done by means of a control valve that continuously adjusts the flow. A PLC is responsible for reading and monitoring the flow rate.
A number of parameters are continuously monitored as standard. The most important of these is the flow rate, because the sediment load can be determined on the basis of the flow rate. Some standard parameters that we can read:
